22.14 der spatz in der hand by cloe-patra 22.14 der spatz in der hand by cloe-patra
"Lieber den Spatz in der Hand als die Taube auf dem Dach"

I googled it and apparently this German saying about sparrows translates to "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". In this case, I agree.
But this also matches the life which all the decisions I have made (or not made) led to about which I'm thinking a lot these days. I am not one to take risks, I take the easy path and will moan about it all the way.

Speaking of which, a friend named this little bird moaning Myrtle (high five if you remember that character) because I told her that the first days she was chirping for food every 15 mins. I mostly call her "Spatzi", "baby bear" or simply "baby" though.. :D
When we found her 2 weeks ago I probably had my most miserable day of the year. It was about 5 in the afternoon and I still hadn't gotten out of bed or pulled the blinds up. I was just lying there trying to lock the world out and go back to sleep when my grandma told me she saw a baby sparrow in the yard which had fallen out of the nest and if I could do something. That most certainly got me up and since then I have fallen for this little bird more and more every day .
She is pretty much grown by now and I hope I can release her into the wild soon so she can be free.
I might have needed her more than she needs me.

This week I have enrolled for masters starting next semester while currently still working (or better: not working) on my bachelor thesis. Today marks halftime of the 3 months... I have nothing so far and it's a problem.

What a beautiful and tender photo. I love this very much.
I also was really touched by all that you shared with us, as well.
I hope things have come together by now. :huggle:

(Birds, and sometimes of different species, are harbingers of special messages... we just have to know it and be "listening"... )

Well, I hope things got better for you. :huggle:

Moaning Myrtle? Oh dear, I hope the little one did not turn out exactly like it's name giver and hopefully keeps far away from toilets. Especially with being taken care by you, there's certainly nothing it has to moan about, I'm sure. ;)
Anyway, wonderful photo, I love the angle and the focus in this one, it leaves a good impression.

Sincerely

you do understand that you have held not just a sparrow but a life in your hand and by your actions ( none of which you contemplated laying in bed being miserable thinking of yourself) you took a life that was more miserable than what you were feeling ( baby, fallen out of nest, cant fly. cant run. will die in maybe an hour when the local cat see's it) you transformed a worse misery into an extended life with value.
I am reminded of a Biblical quote also Matthew 10:29 ~ " Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father."
One did fall and you found it, saved it and returned it to life so that someday maybe if/when it finds a mate there will be other and new sparrows to fly over the world and show life to someone else just by being.

I actually thought of exactly that, that's what made me get up, knowing that I would actually do something of use in helping her. Nothing will make me more happy than releasing her back into the wild to the other birds where she can live a hopefully long and healthy life :aww: and I remember that bible verse too surprisingly, it's a nice one :)

more proof of what I say when I claim while Love IS the greatest thing we have been given in life, Humor is number 2. and while you were feeling low God was laughing at the joke you never even knew was coming when you found a life that was feeling more frightened and alone and miserable than you perceived yourself to feel. and I shall even go on a limb and assume something else.. once this lil one was found and you seen what he/she needed and was feeling YOUR internal melancholy didnt vanish so much as was totally forgotten...
Amazing how that worked twasn't it.
